Digital Health

DAA members support the use of digital health services to improve the health and well-being of people with diabetes and prediabetes. There is a growing base of evidence, described in this article, that the wide use of information and communication technology (ICT)-based digital health systems is required for the treatment and management of diabetes and other metabolic diseases and essential for equitable access to diabetes prevention programs for people with prediabetes.

Several DAA members are monitoring the use of current technologies and will review new technologies to inform their support of policies and legislation for use of digital health tools for people with diabetes and prediabetes. Some of these tools include:

  • Telehealth visits with health professionals
  • Interactive programs delivered online
  • Mobile apps and wearables for people with diabetes and prediabetes
  • Electronic health records
  • In-home connected virtual assistants
  • Health system disease management apps
  • Text messaging and email
